How did you get your start in music?
I loved music from a young age. I got into rap and hip-hop when I was skateboarding as a kid and I was inspired by Kid Cudi’s Man on the Moon II to start making my own beats. I was accepted into my first real songwriting camp when I was 15 and that camp taught me so much.
Where are you from?
I’m from Canada. I was born in Brampton, Ontario. But I was raised mostly on an island in Nova Scotia called Cape Breton Island.
Tell us the story behind your new song, "late to the party"?
I wrote “late to the party” in Toronto last October with Michael Lantz. I had some chords I liked and I recorded them on the piano while Lantz did his thing on the drums. I caught a vibe and started singing from there. We both laid down some melodies and wrote the song in a couple of hours. For me, the song is kind of an apology to someone after letting them down. It’s also about being clear about what your goals and intentions are moving forward.
What’s your favorite thing to do on a Saturday?
I prefer to be in the studio, even on weekends. But, when I want to get out for a bit, I’ll go skating or grab a patio beer with some friends.
If you weren’t a musician, what do you think you’d be doing right now?
If I wasn’t a musician, I think I would probably mix sound for movies and television or live concerts. I just love working with sound.
What is one album that changed your life?
Man on The Moon by Kid Cudi or My Beautiful Dark Twisted Fantasy by Kanye West.
What’s up next for you?
I’m going to be releasing more music at a consistent rate. I'm sitting on some great songs, so I really want to share them with the world and keep it moving. My goal is to write and record 30 more songs before the year is over. Also, I’ll be working on my live show for when it’s time to hit the stage. I want to create special moments in my shows. I’ll be documenting everything I’m up to and posting on my socials, so stay tuned in!
