With influences like Britney Spears and The Pussycat Dolls, its hard not to be transported back to those late 90's and early 2000's pop moments we all know and love while listening to PLENTY. Check out her newest single 'I Don't Wanna Know' on our Top 20 Spotify playlist! We interviewed the 19 year old singer/songwriter from Northern Norway and fell in love with her unique pop style...
How did you get your start in music?
I’ve always loved performing and being on stage since I was a little girl, but I don’t think I realized that I needed to do this as my profession until high school. I studied music in high school, and finished my year at LIMPI this June. Now I’m in sessions weekly.
What does music mean to you?
Music is something I think is super personal to everyone, whoever you ask. It’ll keep you company while you’re alone, and always gives you something to do. Music is literally everything, without music there’s no purpose to a lot of stuff.
Tell us the story behind your song/ what inspired it?
I was sitting by the piano one day at the end of LIMPI, super frustrated over not getting any melodies to mind when I was playing, so I just randomly played a chord and screamed the first thing that came to mind; which was the chorus of “I Don’t Wanna Know”. So you can practically say that the song happened by accident. Later I showed what I had to my best friend and co-writer Cate Downey and she helped me write it. We were just playing around when Cate randomly sung something about “I don’t wanna know” and I stopped her for a minute cause I got the whole idea of the song. We wrote it super fast, probably in like 40 minutes, like we always do together. This woman is a firework of a writer!
What’s your favorite thing to do on a Saturday?
I either make my friends and I friends drinks and its a night out, or a box of ice cream and 5 hours of Disney+, there is no in between. This is my favorite day of the week cause you can do whatever you want, and at the end of the day it doesn't matter cause you have Sunday to recover, haha!
What artists influence your sound?
I’m influenced by the late 90`s and early 2000’s pop genre, and also todays dark pop sound. Artists like Britney Spears, Billie Eilish and The Pussycat Dolls are my top influences.
What’s your dream superpower?
My dream superpower would be if I could be someone else for a bit. Given my curiosity about everything, I think getting the chance to be anyone in the world would be really interesting. Literally putting myself into the shoes of other people would deepen my understanding of others. I could be anyone, from a celebrity to a homeless person. I would understand more of their situation and maybe the meaning about life.
What is one album that changed your life?
WHEN WE ALL FALL ASLEEP, WHERE DO WE GO?
What songs do you sing in the shower?
Ballads. Only ballads. Whatever that can help me believe I’m in a music video will work.
What’s up next for you?
I'm working towards my EP release which is set for the spring. So I’ll be releasing another single during the winter, and most likely another one before the two last ones drop at the same time as the EP.
