At only 13 years old, Flora is definitely an artist to watch. We got to ask the Kansas based singer/songwriter some questions and it went a little something like this...
How did you get your start in music?
I started on piano lessons, but I got bored so I started doing violin (fiddle) lessons - but I got bored of that too so I started playing guitar and bass on my own. Now I work with my dad who helps me write and produce my songs.
Where are you from?
I was born in Topeka, Kansas but now I live in Lawrence, Kansas.
Tell us the story behind your new song?
Keep Calling is about how sometimes people keep telling me things I think I already know, so I just don’t want to hear it. But in time I have to accept that they’re right and I actually need to listen to what they’re telling me because they care about me.
What’s your favorite thing to do on a Saturday?
Go on walks downtown, listen to music in my room, and practice my guitar and bass.
What is your dream superpower?
Invisibility! Because I could disappear from the world whenever I want to.
What is one album that changed your life?
I’ve listened to Beirut’s ‘No No No’ about a hundred times and it is so simple, but never gets old.
What’s up next for you?
I’m making a music video for ‘Keep Calling’ really soon. The premise is showing me make a demo for the song then passing out the finished cassettes at the end to random people so it’s going to be super fun to make!
