An interview with BabyJake

Updated: Aug 2, 2021

BabyJake recently graced our stage and rocked the crowd. His presence is undeniable and he has a big future ahead of him. We got to ask him some questions about his new single 'Daddy's Coming Home' and it went a little something like this....

What inspired/drove you to pursue a music career?

Pursuing music wasn’t really a goal I had growing up or even as a young adult (I was much more focused on being an athlete). I kind of just fell in love with rock & roll and a lot of other alternative stuff, and by the time I dropped out of college in 2016, I figured why not give it a shot. I can say I'm truly lucky and blessed to be in the position I am in right now.

What is your favorite lyric in your new song ‘Daddy's Coming Home’ and why?

Tough call. Probably the hooker line… “Daddy's coming home and he’s got a hooker by his side and she says tell me why daddy tell me why.” But honestly, I love the storyline and lyrics of the entire record.

What inspired this song?

Totally made up the story. I was playing the guitar and came up with the progression, then Danny Shyman (my partner in all of this music stuff) hopped on the bass / drums and we built it out in a couple hours, if I recall correctly. A lot of times, I’ll write and sing songs that aren’t directly about my life.

What’s your favorite thing to do on a Saturday?

My favorite thing to do all the time, regardless of Saturday, is make music. And play music.

What artists influence your sound?

Currently trying to channel my inner Rolling Stones, Bob Dylan, Queen, etc. Really most of the 50’s-90’s artists are my inspiration.

What’s your dream superpower?

To travel back in time (to the 70’s specifically).

Any fun summer plans?

Nope. Just rolling with the punches, hopefully going to start doing a bunch of shows prior to Bottle Rock, but we’ll see.

What’s up next for you?

Rock & Roll, an album, merch, etc.
